Less windshield time
What can actually be shortened.
Aug 6 is already a recovery day, Aug 7 is the unavoidable Kirkjufell transfer, and Aug 10 is only about 40 minutes. The useful cuts are removing repeated black-sand scenery on Aug 8 and using Road 56 when the group wants a genuinely relaxed day.
Keep the scenic coast if conditions are good. A shorter 1h45-ish Route 1 day requires sleeping in Akureyri on Aug 5 and giving up Siglufjörður/Tröllaskagi—not merely deleting a repeated stop.
Kolugljúfur and Hvítserkur are removed from the base plan. Shop in Blönduós the night before so Borgarnes is only a short lunch/fuel pause.
Djúpalónssandur is now out by default because Reynisfjara is the more important black beach. Keep Lóndrangar, FRISTA/Arnarstapi and the brief Búðir photo stop.
Use only if tired: leave Grundarfjörður across Road 56 and head toward Sól. It saves real wheel time but drops Lóndrangar, FRISTA/Arnarstapi and Búðir.
